Summary: The role involves hiring four Contract Solution Architects for a multi-year transformation project in the commodities and energy trading sector, focusing on transitioning to a modern, data-centric architecture. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and deliver end-to-end solutions across complex trading and data environments.
- Work closely with engineering, trading, and platform teams.
- Cover architecture, grid setup, performance tuning, data segregation, scaling, and integrations for Endur.
- Design a scalable event-driven ecosystem around Endur using Kafka and pub/sub patterns.
- Define the wider application ecosystem and migrate non-core functionality to cloud-native services.
- Lead large-scale migration from Oracle to Azure SQL Server.
- Engage with stakeholders across technical and business teams.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience in designing and delivering complex, integration-heavy architectures.
- Deep Azure knowledge, including Kafka, Azure Event Grid, and Service Bus.
- Proven ability to implement solutions end-to-end.
- Experience with cloud database architecture, particularly Oracle and SQL Server in Azure environments.
- Ability to simplify complex trading landscapes and reduce monolithic dependencies.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in commodities or energy trading is preferred.
- Endur experience is beneficial but not essential.

X4 Technology are partnered with a leading global energy trading firm on a flagship, multi-year transformation of its Crude & Products business. This VP-sponsored programme will transition Products Trading from a legacy ETRM to a modern, data-centric, event-driven architecture built around Endur v26 , alongside a broader ecosystem of cloud-native data platforms and user experiences for traders, analysts, quants and operators. The target state shifts away from a monolithic ETRM landscape to a microservices-led, integration-first architecture - enabling clean, reliable, real-time data flows across trading and operations. This is a high-priority, enterprise-scale transformation with strong funding, long-term commitment (5+ years) and significant architectural ownership across front-to-back trading systems.
The client is hiring 4x Solution Architects across key workstreams:
- Endur Architect – deep Endur expertise (v26 preferred), covering architecture, grid setup, performance tuning, data segregation, scaling and integrations
- Integration Architect – designing a scalable event-driven ecosystem around Endur, leveraging Kafka and pub/sub patterns to eliminate point-to-point integrations
- Full Stack Architect – defining the wider application ecosystem, moving non-core functionality out of Endur into modern cloud-native services
- Database Architect – leading large-scale migration from Oracle (15TB+) to Azure SQL Server, covering architecture, performance, and long-term scalability
Requirements for the Solution Architects (Commodities)
These are hands-on architecture roles , not design-only positions. You will be expected to design, build and deliver end-to-end solutions across complex trading and data environments, working closely with engineering, trading, and platform teams.
- Strong experience designing and delivering complex, integration-heavy architectures
- Deep Azure knowledge, including Kafka, Azure Event Grid, Service Bus, related services
- Proven ability to implement solutions end-to-end (not just high-level design/oversight)
- Strong experience with cloud database architecture (Oracle and SQL Server in Azure environments)
- Ability to simplify complex trading landscapes and reduce monolithic dependencies
- Excellent stakeholder engagement across technical and business teams
- Commodities or energy trading experience (strong preference)
- Endur experience is beneficial but not essential
These are all 6-month rolling contracts on a programme with 5+ years of expected delivery ahead, offering £800-900/day (inside IR35) based hybrid in Central London (3 days per week).
