Summary: The role of Contract Mechanical Design Engineer involves supporting an electronics manufacturing business in Belfast by utilizing SolidWorks for mechanical design and plastic injection moulding projects. The engineer will engage in 2D drawing updates, 3D CAD modelling, and collaborate with senior engineers on product development. This position is hybrid, requiring a mix of on-site and remote work. Key Responsibilities:
- Producing and updating 2D engineering drawings
- Carrying out 3D CAD modelling and design refinements
- Supporting the design and development of plastic injection moulded components
- Working closely with senior engineers on live product development projects
- Contributing to designs for products that integrate or house electronic PCB assemblies
Key Skills:
- Strong experience using SolidWorks
- Experience producing both 2D and 3D mechanical designs
- A background in designing plastic / injection moulded products
- Good understanding of GD&T / geometric tolerancing
- Previous experience in a mechanical design engineering role
- Desirable: Experience designing enclosures or housings for electronic PCBs
- Desirable: Experience working on electronic or electro-mechanical products
- Desirable: Background within product development or manufacturing environments

Contract Mechanical Design Engineer - Solidworks / Plastic Injection Moulding Belfast - Hybrid Up to £47 per hour, Outside IR35 | 6 month initial contract
We’re currently recruiting for a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer with Solidworks experience to support an established electronics manufacturing business based in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with strong SolidWorks experience and a background in plastic injection moulded product design to join a busy engineering team working on active product development projects.
The role will involve a combination of 2D drawing updates, 3D CAD refinements, and mechanical design work on high-volume manufactured products, including components and enclosures used within electronic devices.
The Role

Contract Details
- Location: Belfast
- Working Pattern: Hybrid. 3 to 4 days on site, 1 to 2 days remote
- Rate: Up to £47 per hour, outside IR35
- Contract Length: 6 months initially
