Summary: The Lead DevOps Engineer role involves leading the implementation of a modern CI/CD toolchain for a consulting client in the financial services sector. This position requires collaboration with various teams to enhance software delivery processes and support toolchain adoption. The role is hybrid, based in Solihull, and is offered on a contract basis. The position is classified as outside IR35 with a daily rate of £575.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical implementation and rollout of new CI/CD toolchain components
- Provide guidance and hands-on support to squads using GitLab CI, ArgoCD, XL Release, Kubernetes/Helm, and RedHat OpenShift
- Collaborate with platform engineers, architects, and group stakeholders to support the adoption of the toolchain platform strategy
- Work with squad leads and engineering managers to embed new delivery workflows and ways of working
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, documentation, and structured upskilling of internal teams
- Identify and help resolve blockers to toolchain adoption
Key Skills:
- Strong experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and Terraform
- Deep understanding of DevOps principles and modern software delivery pipelines
- Proven experience supporting or leading cross-functional squads
- Ability to define, document, and embed new ways of working
- Comfortable coaching and collaborating with engineers and operations teams
- Experience with IBM Cloud and RedHat OpenShift
- Familiarity with GitLab CI, ArgoCD, XL Release, or similar CI/CD and deployment orchestration tools
- Background in large-scale migrations or platform transitions
- Experience working in regulated environments (eg financial services) or within enterprise group/entity structures
