Summary: The Contract Engineering Manager (CEM) is responsible for leading civil engineering projects, focusing on sustainable practices across various disciplines such as Drainage, Geotechnical, and Foundations. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring teams, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while promoting low-carbon engineering solutions. The CEM will also coordinate temporary works and support tendering activities, emphasizing sustainability throughout project delivery. This position is pivotal in driving the adoption of environmentally responsible engineering techniques within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on civil engineering projects, focusing on various disciplines including Drainage and Geotechnical.
  • Integrate sustainable engineering solutions across the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to align engineering objectives with sustainability goals.
  • Mentor and guide the engineering team to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions.
  • Champion sustainable engineering practices and conduct sustainability impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with the bid team to develop competitive and sustainable tender solutions.
  • Lead the delivery of designs for permanent and temporary works, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Act as the Temporary Works Coordinator, ensuring safety and sustainability in temporary works.
  • Ensure robust technical assurance processes are in place for project delivery.
  • Work closely with Contract Managers to integrate engineering deliverables into project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Represent the organization in technical discussions and engage with local communities.
  • Prepare and present engineering reports and sustainability metrics.

Key Skills:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Experience in civil engineering, particularly in relevant disciplines.
  • Knowledge of BS 5975 and temporary works management.
  • Ability to manage multi-disciplinary design and delivery teams.
  • Experience in tendering processes and preparing technical submissions.
  • Commitment to sustainable engineering practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
