Content Designer
Location: Telford (with occasional UK travel)
Umbrella Rate: £410.00
Clearance: BPSS and SC Eligible
We are seeking a talented and user-centred Content Designer to join our team and help shape clear, accessible and effective digital services for citizens across the UK. Working within a public sector environment, you will play a key role in designing content that meets user needs, supports policy outcomes, and aligns with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and accessibility requirements.
What you'll be doing:
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to design and deliver high-quality content for digital services
- Create user journeys, guidance, help content and transactional content that customers can act on with confidence
- Translate complex, legislative and operational information into plain English
- Use evidence from user research, analytics and service performance data to improve content and customer outcomes
- Take part in discovery, Alpha and beta activities to help shape future service direction through content design
- Collaborate with policy, legal and operational colleagues to keep content accurate and aligned with statutory obligations
- Help develop content patterns and reusable approaches for wider use across the Income ecosystem
- Support content assurance by contributing to GDS assessments and standards assurance activities
- Champion accessibility, inclusivity and plain English throughout the programme
What you'll bring:
- Experience designing content for complex digital services (ideally in government, financial or other regulated environments)
- Strong user-centred design principles and the confidence to make evidence-based decisions
- Experience with content reviews, audits and iterative improvement based on user needs and research findings
- The ability to work effectively in agile, multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent stakeholder management-comfortable building relationships across business and technical groups
- Credible communication across policy, legal, operational and digital delivery professionals
- A strong understanding of accessibility standards and plain English writing
- Experience balancing user needs, business requirements and policy constraints when creating content
- Confidence challenging assumptions and influencing decisions using user insight
- Commitment to mentoring colleagues and supporting the content design community

Monthly travel UK (2 days each month) to support workshops, research activities or programe activities in the UK.
