Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ecological surveys and assessments for various projects.
- Prepare reports and technical reviews related to ecological impact assessments.
- Manage projects, including financial management and resource planning.

- Ensure compliance with wildlife legislation and planning processes.
- Deliver training and mentoring schemes for colleagues.

Key Skills:

- Project management skills, including financial management.

Your new company A large multidisciplinary consultancy which was established in 1984 is looking for a wide range of ecologists to join their offices in Wakefield, Harrogate or Manchester. They are looking for experienced ecologists to help them with a wide range of projects. These projects include residential developments, onshore wind farms and large construction-based projects.
Your new role As the successful candidate, you will:
- Be qualified to degree level or equivalent in ecology or a related discipline
- Holding or working towards Associate or Full membership of CIEEM
- An excellent working knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning process, habitat and protected species surveying
- A good understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments with a competent handle on the use of the Defra Metric
- Experience of project management, preparing fee quotes and excellent report writing skills
- Competent computer skills, including the use of QGIS mapping and bat call analysis software
- Be self-motivated with an ability to communicate effectively, including management/mentoring of junior staff as part of the team
What you'll need to succeed Min. of BSc degree in Ecology or closely related subject FISC Level 4 desirable Min. of 1 Protected Species Licence at Class 2 level or progressing towards CIEEM membership (min Associate.) Min. four years working in an ecology consultancy Strong botanical survey skills (UK Habs & NVC) Report writing and technical review Extensive Preliminary Ecological Appraisals alongside protected species surveys (GCN, bat, mammals & barn owl etc.) Habitat Regulation Assessment screening, complex Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) & Ecology Chapter production for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) Project management skills (including financial management and resource planning) Track record of delivering training and mentoring schemes for colleagues Detailed understanding and application of Ecological Impact Assessment in complex residential, renewable and infrastructure schemes, including National Infrastructure Projects Detailed understanding of designated sites, citations and assessment of development impacts Understanding of Habitat Regulations Assessment process Extensive knowledge of the Development Planning Regime including National Planning Policy Framework & Schedule of 7a Town and Country Planning Act Detailed knowledge and application of current & upcoming environmental, wildlife and habitats legislation Basic knowledge of the principles of Environmental Net Gain & Natural Capital Assessment is desirable.
