Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Learning Disability

Summary: The Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Learning Disability role is based in the Scarborough, Whitby, and Ryedale area, focusing on community-based mental health services for adults with learning disabilities. The position involves collaboration with various partners, including primary care and local authorities, to provide comprehensive support and treatment. The role is part of a well-established team within the Adult Learning Disability directorate of TEWV, which is dedicated to improving mental health services in North Yorkshire and York. This position is permanent and part-time, with flexible working arrangements available.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical assessments and treatment for adults with learning disabilities in community settings.
• Conduct clinics and home visits throughout the designated area.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to ensure comprehensive care.
• Manage referrals and triage cases within the local duty system.
• Participate in continuous professional development and contribute to teaching and training.
• Engage in clinical audits and service evaluations to improve service delivery.
• Maintain compliance with Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) duties.

Key Skills:

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
• Excellent clinical skills and knowledge in mental health and learning disabilities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
• Experience in teaching, training, and continuous professional development.
• Leadership skills and ability to influence service improvement.

Salary (Rate): £139,882
