Summary: The Consultant role involves acting as the Responsible Clinician for a defined caseload of patients within a community mental health team. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, leading multidisciplinary team meetings, and providing expert clinical advice to healthcare professionals. The position requires a strong background in community mental health and effective communication skills. This is a contract position based in Preston, Lancashire.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the Responsible Clinician (RC) for a defined caseload, ensuring the appropriate management and treatment of patients.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients referred to the CMHT, either in the community (at home) or within clinics.
• Lead and attend regular MDT meetings, collaborating with colleagues to ensure integrated care and positive patient outcomes.
• Provide expert advice to GPs and other healthcare professionals within the catchment area, offering guidance on the management of complex mental health cases.
• Oversee all RC duties within the community mental health team, including the preparation of care plans, mental health act assessments, and treatment reviews.

Key Skills:

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
• Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician (AC) status are essential.
• Experience working in a community mental health setting, with knowledge of mental health assessments, treatment planning, and risk management.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience of leading MDT meetings and providing expert clinical advice.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A valid driving license and access to own transport, as travel within the community is a requirement of the role.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
