Summary: The Consultant in Acute Medicine role at North Bristol NHS Trust involves joining the largest acute medical consultant team in the South West, focusing on delivering high-quality patient care in a dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the diagnosis and clinical management of patients in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and provide clinical support alongside the junior medical team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across specialties for a cohesive approach to patient care.
  • Participate in the Acute Medicine rota, including early and late shifts and weekend cover.
  • Promote the work of the Acute Medical Unit and support Trust priorities for improving patient flow.
  • Engage in teaching, audit, governance, and research within the AMU.
  • Provide professional supervision and mentorship to junior medical staff.

Key Skills:

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration with the GMC and CCT in General Internal Medicine/Acute Internal Medicine.
  • Experience of UK hospital systems and practices.
  • Minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience, including higher surgical/medical training.
  • Training in diagnosis and treatment of acute medical conditions.
  • Proven teaching ability and willingness to teach medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective teams and demonstrate compassionate leadership.
