Summary: The Consultant in Acute Medicine role at North Bristol NHS Trust involves joining a dynamic team to lead the diagnosis and management of patients in a busy Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit. The position emphasizes patient care, safety, and innovative practices in a high-pressure environment. The consultant will participate in a multi-disciplinary team, contribute to quality improvement, and engage in teaching and mentorship. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the diagnosis and clinical management of patients in the AMU and SDEC unit.
- Conduct regular ward rounds and provide clinical support alongside the junior medical team.
- Collaborate with colleagues across specialties for a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Participate in the Acute Medicine rota, including shifts and weekend cover.
- Promote the work of the AMU and support Trust priorities for patient flow and admission reduction.
- Engage in teaching, audit, governance, and research within the AMU.
- Provide professional supervision and mentorship to junior medical staff.
Key Skills:
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
- Full registration with the GMC and CCT in General Internal Medicine/Acute Internal Medicine.
- Experience of UK hospital systems and practices.
- Postgraduate experience including higher surgical/medical training.
- Training in diagnosis and treatment of acute medical conditions.
- Proven teaching ability and willingness to teach medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective teams and demonstrate compassionate leadership.
