Summary: The Consents & Environment Manager will oversee the environmental and planning aspects of large-scale electricity transmission infrastructure projects. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and planning consent conditions, facilitating timely project delivery. The manager will also engage with stakeholders and coordinate environmental compliance efforts throughout the project lifecycle. Proven project management experience in infrastructure is essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the discharge of planning consent conditions and environmental licences across major projects.
- Prepare environmental contract specifications and associated obligations.
- Coordinate and monitor contractor and project environmental compliance against statutory and internal requirements.
- Procure and manage consultancy support, including environmental clerks of works (EnvCoW) and post-consent surveys and assessments.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with statutory bodies, consenting authorities and key external stakeholders.
- Undertake inspections and audits to assure compliance with planning and environmental commitments.
- Promote best practice and continuous improvement in environmental and regulatory performance across delivery teams.
Key Skills:
- Proven project management experience within major infrastructure or nationally significant projects.
- Strong understanding of cost, risk, quality and programme management in a delivery environment.
- Demonstrable experience engaging, influencing and negotiating with external stakeholders and authorities.
- Degree qualified in an environmental discipline; postgraduate qualifications and professional body membership are desirable.
- Background in infrastructure, utilities or environmental consultancy preferred.
