Summary: The Compliance Manager - Regulatory Affairs role is focused on providing interim expertise to the UK Regulatory Affairs team within Investment Banking. The position involves leading the regulatory affairs framework, advising on compliance risks, and ensuring alignment with regulatory developments. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to enhance compliance processes and reporting. This is a 6-month contract based in London, classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interim cover and expertise to the UK Regulatory Affairs team.
  • Lead and maintain the regulatory affairs framework for Compliance.
  • Provide advice on regulatory matters and interpretation of regulations.
  • Identify, assess, advise, and report on emerging compliance risks.
  • Co-ordinate with CIB UK policy owners and subject matter experts.
  • Work effectively with Legal and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor Compliance related changes to industry codes of conduct.
  • Participate in or lead Regulatory Watch impact assessments.
  • Share relevant regulatory developments with Compliance expert teams.
  • Design and deliver enhancements to the CIB Compliance UK Regulatory Watch framework.
  • Identify opportunities to implement best practice and automation.
  • Contribute Compliance input to Bank or UK Territory projects.
  • Provide briefings/reporting and deliver internal training on regulatory matters.
  • Lead in providing advice, support, and assurance to the Compliance Manco.

Key Skills:

  • Prior experience in a Compliance Regulatory Affairs/Watch role.
  • Knowledge of Global Investment Banking products and services.
  • Experience enhancing processes, procedures, tooling, and automation.
  • Ability to analyze regulatory developments and translate technical knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of FCA, PRA, and/or EU rules.
  • Highly organized and efficient in following up and keeping records.

Job Purpose


Provide interim cover and expertise to the UK Regulatory Affairs team, which serves as the key interface for UK CIB Compliance regarding regulatory updates from Legal as part of the Reg Watch framework, or other sources.
Lead and maintain the regulatory affairs framework for Compliance, establish necessary processes, engage stakeholders, and actively contribute to relevant discussions.


Provide advice on regulatory matters and interpretation of regulations, engaging with subject matter experts as required.


Identify, assess, advise and report on emerging compliance risks impacted by regulatory developments.
Co-ordinate with CIB UK policy owners and subject matter experts so that policies and procedures are aligned with regulatory developments.

Core accountabilities of role


* Work effectively with Legal and other key stakeholders, contributing to the CIB UK Regulatory Watch framework.
* Supplement the Legal-led Regulatory Watch by monitoring Compliance related changes to industry codes of conduct, standards, enforcements, and Supervisor reviews that impact the UK
* Participate in, contribute to, or lead, as appropriate, Regulatory Watch impact assessments
* Share relevant regulatory developments with Compliance expert teams and co-ordinate with them to ensure relevant 1Lod awareness and impact assessment. Ensure effective monitoring and follow-up.
* Provide advice and reporting on emerging compliance risks impacted by regulatory developments, engaging with subject matter experts as required.
* Design and deliver enhancements to the CIB Compliance UK Regulatory Watch framework, notably the procedural framework, tooling for the recording and oversight of Regulatory texts and developments, and simplified reporting.
* Identify opportunities to implement best practice and automation
* Work with Compliance expert teams to ensure policies and procedures are updated and aligned with regulatory developments.
* Contribute Compliance input to Bank or UK Territory projects, working with other Compliance subject matter experts.
* Provide briefings/reporting and deliver internal training on regulatory matters.
* Lead in providing advice, support and assurance to the Compliance Manco on regulatory development matters.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience


* Prior experience in a Compliance Regulatory Affairs/ Watch role, with knowledge of Global Investment Banking products and services.
* Previous experience of enhancing processes, procedures, tooling and automation linked to Compliance Regulatory Affairs/ Watch
* Experience in analysing regulatory developments , texts and enforcements, ability to translate technical knowledge and experience into advice and recommendations (verbally and written).
* Good knowledge of FCA, PRA and/ or EU rules and their practical application.
* Highly organised and efficient in following up and keeping clear records.
* Excellent judgment and prioritisation skills.
* Excellent written and oral English skills in order to articulate technical issues and effectively communicate with individuals across the Compliance Function, business and externally e.g. trade associations.
* Ability to collaborate effectively across functions (e.g business lines, Legal).
* Ability to synthesise key messages into simple and effective Management Information
