Summary: The Compliance Engineer at EGGER UK is responsible for ensuring that machinery and processes comply with UK legislative requirements, including PUWER, CE, and UKCA standards. This role involves collaboration with various teams to assess risks, develop compliance strategies, and provide technical support during machinery installation and modifications. The position requires a proactive approach to compliance and a strong understanding of relevant regulations and safety standards. The role is based in Hexham, England, within a leading global manufacturer of wood-based materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct PUWER assessments for existing and newly installed machinery.
  • Support the implementation of UKCA and CE marking requirements, including relevant technical file documentation and conformity assessments.
  • Liaise with Engineering and Projects teams to review machine design and specification to ensure compliance from concept to installation.
  • Provide guidance on applicable UK and international machinery directives, regulations, and standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive compliance register and manage technical files.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations following compliance-related incidents.
  • Liaise with third-party inspectors, notified bodies, and certification organisations where necessary.
  • Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on machinery compliance topics.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of compliance systems and processes.

Key Skills:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in an engineering or compliance-focused role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of PUWER assessments and application.
  • CE and UKCA marking processes and requirements.
  • Machinery safety standards (EN ISO 13849, EN 60204, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience of conducting risk assessments and compiling technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation in a manufacturing context.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to complete).
  • TÜV certification or similar training in machinery safety or functional safety.
  • Experience using compliance or engineering documentation software (e.g., DOORS, Solidworks PDM).
  • Project management skills and experience supporting capital machinery projects.
  • Good communication and report writing skills.

We are now seeking a proactive Compliance Engineer to support legal compliance of machinery and processes across our manufacturing site.

Role Summary

As a Compliance Engineer , you will be responsible for ensuring that machinery, equipment, and processes are compliant with UK legislative requirements, specifically PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), CE and UKCA marking standards. You will work closely with engineering, production, health and safety, and external suppliers to assess risks, develop compliance strategies, and provide technical support during machinery installation and modification.
