Summary

The Compliance and Monitoring Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the Operations Manager by ensuring adherence to health and safety legislation, statutory requirements, and industry best practices within Operational Services.

This position is vital for maintaining a safe and compliant working environment across various service areas, including Waste, Street Cleansing, Horticultural Services, and Transport.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct both scheduled and surprise inspections, audits, and monitoring activities across operational service areas.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety legislation, Council policies, risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Perform workplace observations and route safety assessments to identify hazards and enhance safety.
  • Oversee compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safe working practices.
  • Verify that vehicle, equipment, and workplace safety inspections are accurately completed and properly maintained.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, observations, corrective actions, and compliance activities.
  • Monitor operator licence requirements, driver safety procedures, and fleet-related compliance standards.
  • Assist managers in reviewing and implementing risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in local government, waste management, street cleansing, transport, fleet operations, or operational services.
  • Proven track record in conducting workplace audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Experience in delivering workplace training, inductions, toolbox talks, and competency assessments.

Essential Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Health and Safety training qualification or demonstrable experience in delivering workplace training.

Additional Information

Contract Duration: 6 months with a local authority

Rate: £25.61 per hour (Umbrella)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, on-site, 5 days per week

Payment Schedule: Bi-weekly
