Summary: The Communications Lead role is focused on delivering high-quality internal and external communications for a large public sector organization. The position requires strong campaign management, media relations, and stakeholder engagement skills. The successful candidate will develop audience-focused communication strategies and campaigns that align with organizational priorities. This is a full-time position based in Ellesmere Port, UK, with a flexible working pattern.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, and deliver internal and external communication campaigns across multiple channels
  • Produce engaging content including press releases, marketing materials, digital communications, internal communications, photography, and copywriting
  • Support and deliver change communication campaigns using best practice communication approaches
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on campaign performance and communication effectiveness
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, senior stakeholders, media contacts, partners, and external organisations
  • Support reputation management through proactive and reactive media handling
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives including sponsorship and advertising opportunities
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members where required
  • Participate in media and communications rotas, ensuring media enquiries are handled within deadlines
  • Attend meetings and support creation of multimedia content across various locations when required

Key Skills:

  • Previous experience working within communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing
  • Strong experience delivering successful communication campaigns and audience-led strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines
  • Experience managing media relations and stakeholder communications
  • Understanding of digital communication channels and internal communications
  • Ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders, leadership teams, elected members, and media representatives
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience within local government or a politically sensitive environment would be advantageous
  • Relevant degree, professional qualification, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Membership of CIPR, CIM, or similar professional body desirable
  • Full UK Driving Licence desirable but not essential

Communications Lead

Location: Ellesmere Port, UK
Salary: £19.81 ph PAYE OR £25.37 ph Umbrella
Contract: 3 Months
Working Pattern: Full-time, Monday to Friday, Agile Working

  • Agile working arrangement with a mix of home working and office attendance
  • Core working hours are flexible between 8am and 6pm
  • Team currently attends the office approximately once every two weeks
  • Travel to alternative office locations and sites may occasionally be required

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Communications Lead to support the delivery of high-quality internal and external communications across a large public sector organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for a communications professional with strong campaign management, media relations, and stakeholder engagement experience.
