Summary: The role of a Commercial Property Lawyer involves providing expert legal advice on property transactions, leases, acquisitions, and development projects for the Council. The position requires managing complex legal issues while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The role is hybrid, requiring one day in the office per month, and is initially contracted for three months with potential for extension. The successful candidate will be paid on a PAYE basis and must demonstrate significant experience in commercial property law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle legal matters for the Council, providing expert advice on property transactions, leases, acquisitions, and development projects.
  • Support the Council’s commercial property strategy, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Perform duties of a qualified Commercial Property Lawyer, ensuring efficiency, professionalism, and flexibility.
  • Provide pragmatic and effective legal advice on commercial property matters to the Council and other clients.
  • Represent the Council and clients in property-related matters before courts, tribunals, and public inquiries.
  • Work closely with Council officers, members, and clients to address commercial property issues.
  • Attend meetings, provide legal advice, and prepare reports related to commercial property matters for officers and members.
  • Contribute to the Council’s governance, ensuring compliance with property laws and regulations.
  • Support the continuous improvement of corporate services related to commercial property management.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial property legislation, regulations, and case law.
  • Significant experience in commercial property law, including handling property transactions, leases, acquisitions, disposals, and development projects.
  • Experience of working with senior officers and members, providing legal advice and assisting in decision-making processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  • Proven ability to prepare and present clear, concise reports and legal opinions.
  • Local Authority experience (desirable).

Salary (Rate): 24.60
