The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of projects delivered under an NEC target cost framework.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and develop the commercial team, ensuring appropriate resource is available across current and future work packages.
- Manage NEC contract administration, including early warnings, compensation events, notices and contractual communications.
- Establish and maintain robust commercial controls, including cost reporting, forecasting, CVR, cash flow and value recognition.
- Lead applications for payment, measurement, substantiation and reconciliation against target cost.
- Manage subcontract procurement, commercial strategy, payment assessment and change control.
- Identify, assess and manage commercial change, including programme and cost impacts.
- Support risk and opportunity management, ensuring risks are identified, quantified and appropriately mitigated.
- Produce accurate commercial reports, KPIs and forecasts for project and senior management.
- Maximise commercial value while maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with the client and supply chain.
- Support mobilisation and commercial planning for future work packages across the Sizewell C programme.
- Mentor and develop junior members of the commercial team.
About You
Were looking for an experienced Commercial Manager with a strong background in major civils, infrastructure, highways, energy or other complex construction environments. You will ideally have:
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in a commercial management role within major infrastructure or complex civils projects.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4, ideally Option C target cost contracts.
- Experience managing compensation events, early warnings, payment mechanisms and subcontract administration.
- Strong commercial and financial understanding, including CVR, forecasting, cost control, cash flow and final accounts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience of nuclear, energy, highways, earthworks, structures or drainage projects would be advantageous.
- RICS, CICES or equivalent professional membership would be beneficial.
- Strong IT and reporting skills, including Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
