We are currently working with a well-known UK trade association within the automotive sector that is looking to appoint a Legal Counsel on a 12-month fixed term contract, starting ASAP. Based in London, the organisation operates a hybrid working policy, with employees typically working from home up to two days per week.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to join a collaborative and highly regarded in-house legal team, supporting a specialist data intelligence division that sits at the heart of the organisation’s operations.
The successful individual will act as the lead lawyer supporting the data intelligence business, reporting into the Head of Legal, and will work closely with commercial leads, business development stakeholders and senior management on a broad range of data-focused commercial matters. The workload is expected to be weighted approximately 80% towards data-related contracts and advisory work, with the remaining 20% covering wider commercial legal matters.
The role will involve drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts relating to the sale, licensing and use of data products, advising on data privacy considerations, and supporting the development of new products and services. There will also be exposure to wider commercial, compliance and regulatory issues, including competition law considerations arising within a trade association environment.
This opportunity will suit a lawyer who enjoys working closely with the business, is naturally curious, commercially astute, and comfortable drilling down into facts and context in order to provide pragmatic legal advice. The organisation is looking for someone who operates in an open and collaborative way, is happy to sense-check decisions with senior colleagues, and enjoys being embedded within a fast-moving commercial environment.
Applicants are likely to be able to demonstrate:
- Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales, or another commonwealth jurisdiction, such as Australia or New Zealand, for example
- A minimum of 2 years’ PQE gained in-house and/or in private practice
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience
- Familiarity with data privacy, IT/IP and competition law considerations
- The ability to build strong working relationships with business stakeholders
- Strong communication skills and sound commercial judgement
- A proactive, collaborative and detail-oriented approach
Due to the ASAP start date, applicants are likely to be available immediately or at short notice.
