Summary: The Cloud Migration Architect role is a hands-on, delivery-focused position aimed at facilitating the transition from a hosted datacentre to a secure, hybrid Microsoft Azure environment. The architect will lead the design and implementation of the Azure environment while collaborating with various teams to ensure a smooth migration of critical applications. This position requires deep technical expertise and the ability to work effectively in a brownfield environment with minimal documentation. The contract is for 10 months and is based in Oxford with a hybrid working arrangement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of a secure, scalable Azure environment.
- Collaborate with third-party engineers and internal teams to manage all technical aspects of the migration.
- Assess and document the current environment to inform migration planning.
- Migrate critical in-house applications to Azure, ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and security.
- Support the decommissioning of Legacy services in favour of M365, Azure, and supplier-hosted platforms.
- Implement secure access solutions using tools like Duo MFA, Cisco AnyConnect VPN, and Sophos UTM.
- Align identity and access management with Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, RBAC, and Intune.
- Integrate security telemetry into Defender for Cloud, Defender for Identity, and Azure Arc.
- Collaborate with SOC teams on incident readiness and SIEM integration (eg, Microsoft Sentinel).
- Produce robust documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and support guides.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience leading large-scale Azure cloud migrations and infrastructure transformations.
- Familiarity with PSN compliance, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Experience with Microsoft Sentinel and SIEM integration.
- Strong knowledge of Azure networking (VNet peering, VPNs, ExpressRoute).
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, RBAC, PIM, MFA.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Defender suite (Endpoint, Identity, Cloud).
- Strong knowledge of endpoint management (Intune, Azure Arc).
- Strong knowledge of hybrid security tools (DUO, Cisco AnyConnect, Sophos UTM).
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and external vendors.
