Summary: The Class 3 Building Control Inspector role involves ensuring compliance with building regulations for complex developments within a Midlands-based Local Authority. The inspector will work closely with the Building Safety Regulator and a multi-disciplinary team, addressing high-risk buildings and providing technical guidance. The position requires a blend of remote work and on-site inspections as necessary, with a focus on customer service and professional development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations for high-risk and complex developments through plan appraisals, inspections, and enforcement actions.
  • Work alongside the Building Safety Regulator within a multi-disciplinary team to regulate higher-risk buildings.
  • Investigate and address dangerous structures, unauthorised works, demolitions, and complaints, taking enforcement action when necessary.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to stakeholders, ensuring compliance through inspections and assessments.
  • Supervise and support team members, delegating tasks and mentoring junior staff.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external agencies, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Promote a customer-focused service, exploring new techniques and improving service efficiency.
  • Maintain professional registration and CPD compliance while ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 and Council regulations.

Key Skills:

  • Class 2A – 3H Registered Building Inspector status with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CABE, CIOB) with evidence of CPD compliance.
  • Extensive experience in Building Control, managing complex caseloads, including new applications, regularisations, and reversions.
