Summary: The role of Civil Engineer involves delivering large-scale civil projects, specifically focusing on rock-filled dams and hydro power projects. The position requires collaboration with design teams and site managers to ensure efficient construction methodologies and technical support. The successful candidate will work three days a week in the Swindon head office and will be part of a multimillion-pound hydro power project in Scotland. This role is classified as outside IR35, pending a full status determination assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement optimised construction methodologies for rock-filled dams, including detailed planning and sequencing.
  • Prepare and review method statements, feasibility studies, and risk assessments specific to plinth construction, curtain grouting, and dam face works.
  • Oversee the planning and technical detailing for the processing and placement of rock fill and filter layers.
  • Specify suitable plant and equipment for large-scale dam construction, and calculate production rates and cycle times to enhance site productivity.
  • Collaborate with design teams, structural engineers, and site managers to ensure constructability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to ensure smooth execution of methods on active dam projects.
  • Evaluate new techniques and materials relevant to rock fill and embankment dam construction.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the construction of rock-filled dams for a contractor.
  • Experience with plinth construction and curtain grouting.
  • Knowledge of processing and placement of rock fill and filter layers.
  • Familiarity with upstream/downstream face construction techniques.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive construction sequences and site-specific methodologies.
  • Strong ability to specify plant, calculate cycle times, and assess productivity.
  • Familiarity with construction planning tools (AutoCAD, Primavera P6, BIM, etc.) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across multidisciplinary teams.

The Opportunity

Due to increased expansion, our client is looking to bring in a dam construction specialist to help deliver a multimillion pound hydro power project in Scotland. The successful candidate will be required to work 3 days a week in the Swindon head office. This role has been deemed outside IR35 but is dependent on a full status determination assessment. This will be a 3 months hybrid based role, based in Swindon

Rate: £550 - £750 per day (neg.)

Your duties and responsibilities will be

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field –
  • Proven experience in the construction of rock-filled dams for a contractor.

  • Processing and placement of rock fill and filter layers.
  • Upstream/downstream face construction techniques.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive construction sequences and site-specific methodologies.
