Granite Recruitment is looking for an experienced Design Management Engineer to support a leading civil engineering contractor on major infrastructure projects across Scotland's transport and energy sectors.
This opportunity is suited to a civil engineering professional who can quickly integrate into a pre-construction and tendering environment, supporting live bids, design coordination and value-engineered solutions across renewable energy projects.
The main function of the role is to manage and coordinate the design process within design-and-build projects, helping develop cost-effective engineering solutions, define scopes and support successful project delivery from tender stage through to construction readiness.
The successful candidate will work closely with clients, consulting engineers, public utilities, local authorities, statutory bodies, internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers to coordinate design inputs, resolve technical issues and maintain momentum against programme and tender milestones.
This role will suit someone with a strong civil engineering background, practical design management experience and the confidence to provide senior support across multidisciplinary infrastructure schemes, ensuring quality, compliance, buildability and commercial value are maintained throughout the design process.
What you'll be doing
- Coordinate and manage civil engineering design activity across major infrastructure projects, including renewable energy, highways, marine works, substations, underground power networks, battery storage, grid stabilisation and wind farm developments.
- Support pre-construction and tendering teams by developing cost-effective, buildable engineering solutions and coordinating the design information required for successful bid and project delivery.
- Liaise with consulting engineers, clients, utilities, local authorities and statutory bodies to define project objectives, scope, deliverables, constraints and approvals requirements.
- Monitor design progress, track key deliverables, identify risks or issues and take appropriate action to keep work packages aligned with programme, tender and client requirements.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, providing senior support to maintain quality, compliance, safety and effective design delivery.
Who we're looking for
- Proven project delivery experience in civil engineering design management, ideally within design-and-build environments.
- Experience supporting civil engineering projects across renewable energy infrastructure, highways, marine construction or wider infrastructure schemes.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, standards, buildability, quality requirements and design coordination processes.
- Exposure to projects exceeding £10m in value would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of NEC3/4 and FIDIC contracts advantageous.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, statutory bodies, subcontractors and suppliers.
