Summary: An opportunity exists for a Civil Design Engineer or Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary consultancy in Gateshead, focusing on drainage systems, flood risk assessments, and road layouts for residential developments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage civil engineering projects from feasibility and planning through detailed design and construction.
  • Produce Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy Reports.
  • Design roads, sewers, and plot drainage, including setting FFLs, earthworks, retaining walls, etc.
  • Prepare and present high-quality technical drawings.
  • Liaise with statutory authorities (e.g., highways, water companies, LLFAs) for approvals, including Section 38 and Section 104 agreements.
  • Attend project and client meetings.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines to deliver projects efficiently.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in civil engineering design.
  • Minimum HNC qualification in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning procedures and industry design standards (e.g., Sewerage Sector Guidance, DMRB, MfS, Local Authority guidelines).
  • Experience using civil engineering design software: MicroDrainage or Causeway Flow (essential), AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Causeway PDS / Live Design.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Additional Notes

This is a design office-based role – applicants with only site engineering experience (e.g., site managers or site engineers) will not be considered.

UK-based experience (minimum 2–3 years) is required for visa applicants.

Candidates must have direct experience designing drainage systems using appropriate software tools.
