Summary: This role involves providing individual advocacy to children and young people aged 5-18 who are navigating the Children’s Hearings system in East Lothian and Midlothian, with occasional work in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. The position is part-time, requiring 21 hours per week over three days, and is fixed-term for 12 months to cover maternity leave. Candidates will receive advocacy training and must have experience working with children and young people, along with strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual advocacy to children and young people in the Children’s Hearings system.
  • Support children and young people in expressing their views and wishes.
  • Work primarily face-to-face with children and young people, with some home working possible.
  • Travel to Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders as required.
  • Participate in training and adhere to the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Key Skills:

  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Proven communication skills with children and young people.
  • Ability to provide independent advocacy.
  • Willingness to undergo advocacy training.
