Summary: The Grid Technical & Commercial Design Manager will play a crucial role in supporting bids and ensuring technical assurance during the detailed design phase of energy-related projects. This contract position requires strong grid technical and commercial experience, focusing on managing design proposals that meet customer requirements and safety regulations. The role involves overseeing design development, managing subcontractor packages, and implementing BIM protocols. The successful candidate will contribute to high-profile projects within a forward-thinking organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and implementation of design proposals, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, budget constraints, and approval processes.
- Ensure designs prioritise safety in construction and use, quality, maintainability, energy efficiency, and minimal environmental impact.
- Manage subcontractor design packages and ensure successful technical approvals.
- Effectively brief the Design Team, including Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) elements.
- Lead the development and management of the design deliverables programme, ensuring timely gate reviews and appropriate sign-offs.
- Oversee the coordination and production of design data, reports, and essential project documentation.
- Implement BIM protocols, ensuring proper data management, collaboration, and teamwork across the supply chain.
- Represent the business in forums such as Safety by Design & Engineering, promoting continuous improvement in safety standards.
Key Skills:
- Strong technical and commercial experience within the Client's framework or similar regulated environments.
- Proven expertise in design management within Energy, Infrastructure, or Utilities sectors.
- Strong understanding of grid connections, electrical infrastructure, and power systems.
- Experience managing subcontractor design packages and ensuring technical approvals.
- Excellent knowledge of BIM protocols and ability to implement digital engineering best practices.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience liaising with clients, statutory bodies, and design teams.
- Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it (preferred).
- Familiarity with UK regulations, safety legislation, and engineering codes of practice.
