Summary: The Chemical Safety and CoSHH Advisor is responsible for providing expert technical guidance on chemical management to ensure safety, health, and environmental protection on a large construction site. This role involves coaching contract partners, managing chemical inventories, and supporting compliance with regulations such as COMAH. The advisor will also develop emergency response measures and promote best practices in chemical management. The position requires a high degree of autonomy and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide chemical safety and CoSHH advice across health, safety, fire, environment, and emergency response teams.
  • Manage and assure the site’s chemical inventory in line with regulatory requirements, including COMAH.
  • Develop arrangements for safe chemical storage and COMAH site operations.
  • Review and assess contractor chemical use proposals, consulting with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Coach contract partners to meet high chemical safety standards.
  • Identify hazards requiring further mitigation or response and advise stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of an improved chemical management system.
  • Assist with chemical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a Chemical Management Community of Best Practice.
