Summary: The role of Interim Chartered Building Surveyor involves supporting a public-sector programme aimed at acquiring and refurbishing residential properties for children and young people in care. The position requires leading various activities from pre-acquisition through to refurbishment delivery, including project management and contract administration. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing surveys, valuations, and stakeholder engagement throughout the process. This is a hybrid role based in Greater Manchester, with a contract duration of 3-6 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifying and assessing acquisition opportunities and maintaining a live tracker of prospects
- Coordinating desktop reviews, shortlisting, and arranging stakeholder viewings
- Managing RICS Level 3 surveys and valuations, plus legal due diligence and conveyancing through to completion
- Preparing appraisal and board-level approval documentation
- Managing consultants through measured surveys, concept design, planning and building regs
- Producing / signing off Descriptions of Works, tender packs, and procurement documentation
- Leading refurbishment delivery: programme, cost control, risk, quality, reporting
- Contract administration duties (including variations, valuations, interim payments, practical completion)
- Chairing progress meetings and maintaining accurate project records
Key Skills:
- Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) (or equivalent demonstrable senior experience)
- Strong project management and contract administration capability (ideally JCT experience)
- Comfortable with surveys, valuations, due diligence and stakeholder reporting/approvals
- Confident operating in a public-sector environment with multiple stakeholders
- Able to work on-site in Greater Manchester as required
