Summary: The Chainsaw Operative/Groundworker at RSS Infrastructure plays a vital role in the Arboriculture Department, contributing to various projects across the UK, including HS2 and Midlands Metro Alliance. This position involves performing tree removal and vegetation clearance tasks while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. The role requires collaboration with a dynamic team and maintaining relationships with contractors to support project growth. Candidates must hold specific qualifications and demonstrate a solid understanding of working in active environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate hand-held equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with current regulations.
  • Perform tree removal and vegetation clearance tasks.
  • Demonstrate understanding of working in and around machinery and active work sites.
  • Consider occupational and environmental risks to workforce and public.
  • Maintain healthy working relationships with Principal Contractors and/or Contractors.
  • Follow project plans and safety guidelines stated within RAMS & POWRA.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment regularly to comply with PUWER.
  • Work as part of a team to complete projects and tasks in a timely manner.
  • Have an excellent understanding of tree identification & characteristics.
  • Work with industry best practices and deliver excellent standards of work.
  • Assist Site Supervisor and colleagues as needed.

Key Skills:

  • Hold NPTC CS30, CS31 certifications.
  • In date CSCS card (Including ROLO).
  • Brush Cutter/Strimmer experience.
  • First Aid at Work or Forestry First Aid Certificate.
  • Full Clean UK Drivers Licence (B+E Towing desirable).
  • Desirable qualifications: Personal Track Safety (PTS), Wood Chipper, MEWP, Aerial Rescue.
  • Previous experience with heavy plant & machinery is advantageous.
  • Other associated training courses are a plus.
