Central Government Planning Lawyer

Summary: An experienced UK Qualified Planning Lawyer is sought for a locum contract with a Central Government Organisation, focusing on Planning Law, Environmental issues, and litigation. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience in planning law, advising on planning policies, and supporting government functions. The position offers hybrid working arrangements and a competitive hourly rate. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and a proactive approach to legal challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for planning policies, safety policies, integration, and regeneration.
• Provide legal support on planning consent applications for large energy infrastructure projects and overhead powerlines.
• Work with Government Departments on planning reforms and new developments.
• Advise on litigation involving the Government, collaborating with GLD Litigation teams and external Counsel.
• Make decisions about case progression and liaise with senior colleagues as necessary.
• Maintain electronic case management and keep files organized.
• Manage a high case load while fostering good relationships with team colleagues.

Key Skills:

• Preferably 3 years+ in planning law within local or central government or private practice.
• Sound knowledge of and experience advising on Planning and Environmental matters.
• UK Qualified (Solicitor or Barrister/Equivalent) with at least 2 years post-qualified experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proactive approach to managing risks and identifying solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to create and support an inclusive working environment.
• Reliable legal judgment and appreciation of legal risk.
• Sound analysis and legal research skills to provide timely advice.
