Summary: The Carousel Technician role at Brunel involves operating and monitoring carousel systems for subsea cable and flexible product laying operations within the offshore industry. Candidates should possess hands-on experience with carousel and tensioning systems, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and project specifications. The position requires close coordination with deck crew and participation in operational planning and emergency drills. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor carousel systems for loading, storing, and deploying subsea cables or flexible products.
- Assist in mobilization/demobilization of carousel and related equipment, including mechanical setup and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate closely with deck crew, riggers, and shift supervisors to ensure safe and efficient cable handling operations.
- Monitor tension levels, speeds, and cable integrity during transpooling and laying activities.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and fault reporting on carousel and tensioning systems.
- Operate or assist with associated equipment such as tensioners, winches, quadrants, A&R systems, and HPU controls.
- Ensure operations comply with project specifications, offshore safety procedures, and toolbox talks (TBTs).
- Participate in shift handovers, operation planning meetings, and emergency drills as required.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Carousel Operator/Technician on offshore cable lay projects, ideally on CLVs or MPOVs.
- Familiarity with carousel systems from vendors such as Remacut, Motive Offshore, or equivalent.
- Experience in handling inter-array, export, or dynamic subsea cables.
- Comfortable with transpooling, pull-ins, cut & seal, and CPS handling.
- GWO Certifications (Working at Heights, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, First Aid, Sea Survival).
- Ability to read and understand cable lay procedures and deck layouts.
- OPITO Rigger Stage 3 (especially for multi-role deck crew).
- IRATA Rope Access (where applicable).
- Basic mechanical/electrical troubleshooting capability.
- HPU knowledge and control interface familiarity.
