Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a small finance team, including an Assistant Accountant and a Capital Project Accountant.
- Manage capital budgets and support capital project boards.
- Maintain the Council's fixed asset register.
- Conduct treasury management and financial reporting.
- Provide professional financial advice and contribute to financial systems and process improvements.
- Support business case development and ensure effective financial governance across capital programmes.
Key Skills:
- Recognized professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in capital accounting, including budget preparation and control.
- Knowledge of fixed asset accounting and treasury management.
- Experience providing financial advice and managing stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and spreadsheet skills.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- Background in a complex finance environment and experience supervising staff is advantageous.

Your new role
As Capital Accountant, you will report to the Head of Finance and oversee a small team, including an Assistant Accountant and a Capital Project Accountant. You will play a key role in delivering capital accounting services, including managing capital budgets, supporting capital project boards, and maintaining the Council's fixed asset register.Your responsibilities will include treasury management, financial reporting, providing professional financial advice, and contributing to financial systems and process improvements. You will also work in partnership with various directorates, supporting business case development and ensuring effective financial governance across capital programmes.
What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you should hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification (such as ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent).You will bring:
- Experience in capital accounting, including budget preparation and control
