Summary: The role of Shop Mechanic involves supporting oil and gas operations through the repair, overhaul, and testing of rotating and stationary equipment. The position requires a mechanically skilled individual who is safety-focused and capable of working in a fast-paced shop environment, with occasional field assignments. Responsibilities include rebuilding oilfield equipment, performing precision maintenance, and assisting with the construction of new facilities. The ideal candidate should have significant mechanical experience and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rebuild and repair oilfield rotating equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, PCP/rod pump surface systems, and mechanical drive components.
- Perform precision maintenance: alignment, torqueing, seal installation, bearing replacement, and assembly testing.
- Repair or refurbish stationary components such as frames, piping sections, skids, and equipment housings.
- Assist with construction and installation of new buildings (equipment shelters, compressor buildings, shop structures).
- Support mechanical setup inside new buildings—mounting equipment, preparing skids, basic mechanical installation, and integrating mechanical systems.
- Use shop tools and equipment safely (presses, hoists, torque tools, pullers, welding/cutting tools depending on certification).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop work environment.
- Coordinate with field mechanics, operators, and construction teams to meet operational needs.
- Prepare repaired equipment for field deployment (testing, tagging, packaging).
Key Skills:
- 3+ years mechanical experience in oil & gas, industrial, or heavy equipment environments.
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment repair and rebuild practices.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and assembly diagrams.
- Proficient with mechanical hand tools, shop tools, and lifting/rigging equipment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong commitment to safety and workmanship quality.
- Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or similar certification (preferred).
- Experience with oilfield pumps, gearboxes, and drive systems (preferred).
- Basic fabrication/welding skills (asset, based on certification) (preferred).
- Experience supporting building construction or mechanical facility installation (preferred).
