Summary: The role of Chair for Qualifications Wales involves providing strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring that qualifications offered in Wales meet the needs of learners, employers, and the economy. The Chair will work closely with the Chief Executive and Directors to develop strategies and ensure compliance with statutory and financial requirements. This position requires a commitment of approximately five days per month and involves travel for face-to-face meetings across Wales. The initial appointment is for three years, with a maximum of six years, and the role is not pensionable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide vision and strategic leadership to the Board.
- Develop effective working relationships with the Chief Executive and Directors.
- Formulate Board strategies and ensure compliance with statutory and financial requirements.
- Represent the Board's views to the public and the Cabinet Secretary for Education.
- Ensure all Board members are fully briefed on their appointment terms and responsibilities.
- Advise Welsh Ministers on the needs of Qualifications Wales during Board appointments.
- Attend annual performance reviews conducted by Welsh Ministers.
- Ensure effective collaboration between the Board and Qualifications Wales Executive Board.
- Work with the Chief Executive to implement appropriate governance arrangements.
- Ensure governance arrangements meet legal responsibilities set by statute.
Key Skills:
- Proven leadership and organizational development experience at Board level or equivalent.
