Summary: The CAD Mechanical Designer - Elec role involves the comprehensive design of mechanical systems that integrate electrical components, focusing on packaging and thermal management. The position requires proficiency in 3D CAD design, particularly using UG NX, and entails collaboration with engineering teams to ensure project specifications are met. Candidates must have a strong background in mechanical design related to electrical systems and be able to validate and support the physical implementation of their designs. This is a contract position with a hybrid working arrangement based in Milton Keynes.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-end design of mechanical packaging for electrical systems
- Conduct thermal mechanical calculations and sizing of components
- Detail design using 3D CAD and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Support system validation and fault investigation
- Liaise with engineering for CAD data generation and control
- Maintain best practices in CAD drawing generation
- Utilize extensive NX and Teamcenter experience
- Design composite enclosures and tooling
- Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards
- Document and communicate effectively with stakeholders
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in mechanical design related to electrical systems
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (UG NX) and 2D drawing generation
- Knowledge of automotive industry standards and regulations

Essential Criteria:
- The role encapsulates the end-to-end design of the integration of electrical systems with regards to all Mechanical packaging
- Enclosures, brackets, housings, trucking
- Thermal mechanical - Cooling calcs, sizing of ducts heatsinks etc
- Batteries, cold plates, busbars, PCB mounting, Composite HV pack enclosures
- AV Mounting - Calculate and size bushings, define and manage testing and validation, development of tools and process
- Systems Engineering - Capturing and understanding the requirements, blue sky thinking, problem solving, electrical architecture, componentry selection, layout, and feasibility.
- Detail design - 3D CAD - Concept schemes, packaging
- 2D manufacturing - Drawings, build lists, BOM, supplier selection, costings, planning capture.
- Support - Physically validate the system, parts they have designed, support build, snag correction, fault investigation, easements, cost-downs, reworks instructions, reporting.

- Liaise with engineering in the control and generation of CAD UG NX data and drawings.
- Develop personal systems for optimum performance and efficiency.
- To maintain all facets of CAD drawing generation to best practice.

- Tooling and Mould design

Nice to Have Criteria:
- To have a clear understanding of CAD and UG NX systems at customer site.
- To maintain and control all CAD records and data in the support of project related work.
- Maintain drawing controls to TS16949-2002 standard and advise best practice.
- Co-ordinate drawing changes and requirements for customer
- Design and model components, system installations to customer satisfaction.
- Manage, document and control time, workload.
- To ensure customer confidentiality at all times.
- To work at customer location in the support of 2D, 3D product data generation as and when required.
- To have a clear understanding of automotive electrical distribution systems, drawings and awareness of best in class systems that are available.
- Control, record and implement engineering changes to harness drawings.
- Produce bill of materials and listings in support of other departments.
Additional Information:
- 1-3 yrs min experience in Mechanical design relating to Electrical systems, mounting and bracketry
- Break Out Box "BOB" design experience
- Folded Metalwork & Bracketry
- Composite manufacturing drawing experience
- Motorsport industry design experience
- Electrical/Electronic packaging experience
- Rapid prototyping design experience
