Summary: The role of EDS CAD Design Engineer involves working within the PVO Team to design and develop 3D Harness solutions for various automotive projects. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers to ensure effective engineering solutions are delivered. Responsibilities include creating CAD designs, managing project documentation, and supporting prototype builds. This position is a contract role based in Coventry and is classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create 3D CAD for LV and HV Harnesses (CATIA V6) Electrical and Electronic installations collaborating closely with Electrical, Chassis, and Powertrain design teams.
- Design and package EDS, Wire Harnesses and associated components to required electrical modeling standard.
- Prepare documentation for internal and customer use for electrical installations.
- Support virtual build events and packaging activities to ensure the harness meets cost & weight targets while ensuring design robustness.
- Oversee the release of parts and assembly structures into the bill of materials, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support customer compatibility reviews to check EDS system design and follow up required actions.
- Support harness design reviews, prototype builds and test boards for EDS system issues.
- Providing innovative ideas and analyse benchmarked data to support the business.
- Ensure project documentation is correctly managed, maintained and released in accordance with company processes and standards.
- Take Responsibility to ensure harness design meets customer design requirements e.g. design manual, Electrical & Electronic Distribution System (EEDS) guidelines, SDS.
- Manage project level engineering change control activity.
- Generation and control of project engineering electrical BOM’s.
- Delivery of engineering tasks in line with project milestones.
- Lead prototype builds and provide engineering support for vehicle/system commissioning, fault finding and diagnosis.
Key Skills:
- A degree or similar in an electrical engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience from an automotive background.
- Previous proven experience with designing/draughting All types of Harnesses (HV, 48V, 12V and comms).
- Excellent knowledge of harness assembly processes.
- System design from concept to delivery, with a good understanding of electrical design requirements.
- Experience in automotive electrical systems design and prototype development.
- Experience in HV and LV EDS development – 3D Wiring harness routing.
- Proven track record in the effective delivery of technical objectives to quality targets and milestones.
- Experienced and certified using Catia V5 and Teamcenter.
- Experienced in part Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
- Sound knowledge of electrical principles, materials selection and manufacturing techniques.
- Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office and applications.

Our OEM Client based in Coventry, is searching for an EDS CAD Design Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a contract position with a proposed end date of October 2026.As an EDS Design Engineer within the companies PVO Team, you will be involved at all stages of the design and development process. You will liaise directly with customers, and the cross-engineering teams, to provide and deliver effective engineering solutions.Responsible for the inception, development and release 3D Harness design and packaging across a broad range of company prototype projects
Key Aspects of the role

- Connection systems, distribution, harnessing, cabling & data communication systems.
- Sound knowledge of electrical principles, materials selection and manufacturing techniques.
To have a good knowledge of Electric and Hybrid vehicle technologies, including:
- HV batteries, contactors, fuses, distribution, HVIL, PDU’s
- Motors, inverters, chargers, converters.
