Summary: The Senior Technician Application Support FAS role involves providing shore-based system administration services for command and control information systems in support of Maritime Command HQ and NATO flagships. The position requires expertise in installing and configuring servers, maintaining system administration, and ensuring documentation is up-to-date. The technician will also lead troubleshooting efforts and assist with system fault resolution while maintaining close liaison with other technical staff. A NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance is mandatory for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in shore-based system administration services for command and control information systems.
- Provide support for flagship handovers and may require deployment to geographical locations.
- Install, configure, and set-to-work servers on NATO flagships.
- Perform day-to-day system administration of hardware and software.
- Execute preventive maintenance plans under senior guidance.
- Prepare and maintain technical and service-oriented documentation.
- Report Configuration Control data in a timely manner.
- Provide technical guidance to other technicians.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and assist with system fault resolution.
- Perform beta testing of new software versions and provide feedback.
- Maintain liaison with other technicians and engineers.
- Stay updated on technological developments relevant to the work area.
Key Skills:
- Active NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance.
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years of post-related experience or secondary educational qualification with 5 years of post-related experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in administering, testing, and deploying applications at server and user levels.
- Recent experience with functional applications within Windows and UNIX in a large-scale service-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of database principles and experience in database administration and SQL.
- Experience in Incident and Problem Management.
- Experience in a customer support environment.
- Maritime C2 Systems training or experience.

Duties and Role:
- AA Senior Technician responsible for assisting in shore-based system Administration Services for a variety of command and control Information Systems in support of Maritime Command HQ (MARCOM) and NATO flagships, to include current NATO Maritime C2, Air C2, and Maritime situational awareness tools.
- Provides support of Flagship handovers for those nations involved in the Standing Naval Forces (SNF's). This may include deployment to the geographical locations at which the handovers are staged.
- This may include working in small confined spaces as well as lifting heavy weights.
- Provides expertise to install, configure and set-to-work servers on board NATO flagships.
- Responsible for the day-to-day system administration of the hardware and software of the currently fielded version of supported systems.
- Executes proper preventive maintenance plans under the guidance of senior section members.
- Ensures all technical and service oriented documentation pertaining to assigned systems is prepared, properly stored and kept up-to-date.
- Ensures Configuration Control data is reported properly and in a timely manner.
- Provides technical guidance on all assigned hardware and software to other technicians of the cell.
- Leads troubleshooting efforts on assigned systems as required.
- Provides assistance with system fault resolution to the Centralised Service Desk.
- Provides assistance and technical advice to other staff of the CSU Northwood for all aspects of systems supported by the cell.
- Responsible for performing beta testing of new versions of supported systems software and providing appropriate feedback to the assigned System Manager.
- Maintains a close liaison with other technicians and engineers in the CSU Northwood.
- Stays abreast of technological developments relevant to the area of work.
- Performs other duties as may be required.
Specific Working Conditions:
- Some occasional travel not exceeding 1 week at a time.

Requirements Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance.
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience. Or a secondary educational qualification with 5 years post-related experience.
- At least 5 year experience in administering, testing, and deploying applications at both the server and the user level.
- At least 5 years recent experience with functional applications within Windows and UNIX in a large scale service-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of database principles, experience in database administration and SQL.
- Experience in Incident and Problem Management.
- Experience of working within a customer support environment.
- Maritime C2 Systems training courses, or experience in working with Maritime C2 Systems.
- Have a very good general working knowledge of IT hardware and auxiliary computer equipment, such as printers and scanners.
