Summary: The Business Planning & Performance Lead at Great British Energy - Nuclear is responsible for designing and overseeing the business plan process, ensuring effective reporting of business progress to the Board and shareholders. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and lead the development of the Strategic Plan and Business Plan.
  • Own the compilation of both plans, managing contributions from other business areas.
  • Engage with GBN business functions to ensure understanding and timely information provision.
  • Work with the Head of Corporate Strategy to ensure comprehensive and deliverable plans.
  • Seek buy-in from GBN's Executive Team and ensure well-written presentations of the Business Plan.
  • Support the approval process of the Business Plan with GBN and its shareholder.
  • Develop GBN's Business Plan reporting process for data-driven reports.
  • Create quarterly progress reports for GBN's Board of Directors and shareholders.
  • Engage with other functions to capture progress in reports.
  • Support engagement with the Board and shareholders to present progress and integrate feedback.
  • Collaborate with the communication team to disseminate GBN's plan to internal and external audiences.

Originally named, Great British Nuclear, Great British Energy - Nuclear is an arm's length body of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, dedicated to supporting the development and deployment of new nuclear technologies in Great Britain. We play a crucial role in advancing nuclear new build, ensuring the UK's energy security and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Great British Energy - Nuclear focuses on fostering innovation, facilitating investment, and coordinating efforts across the nuclear industry to build a resilient and sustainable energy future. Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for driving business performance? The Business Planning & Performance Lead plays a key role in designing GBN's business plan and ensuring an effective process is in place to report business progress to our Board and our shareholder. You will leverage your organisational skills and need for robust processes to support the development and operation of the business plan exercise.

Please note - This is a 6 month fixed term contract role and the ideal candidate will be able to start immediately.

Day to day duties:

  • Support and lead (when required) the development of the Strategic Plan and the Business Plan on behalf of the Head of Corporate Strategy.
  • Own the day-to-day compilation of both the Strategic and Business plans, managing contributors from other areas of the business.
  • Engage with other GBN business functions to ensure the process is well understood and information is provided as and when required.
  • Work with the Head of Corporate Strategy to ensure the business plan is comprehensive, deliverable, incorporates lessons learnt from GBN and the work done to establish the development companies (tasked with delivering the nuclear projects).
  • Seek buy-in from GBN's Executive Team.
  • Lead on ensuring the Business Plan is well written and presented.
  • Support the approval process of the Business Plan with GBN and its shareholder by, for example, summarising key information and developing compelling communication material.
  • Support the development of GBN's Business Plan reporting process with the intention to have data driven reports.
  • Lead the creation of quarterly progress reports for GBN's Board of Directors and its shareholder.
  • Engage with other GBN business functions to ensure the reports fully capture the progress to date.
  • Support the engagement with our Board and shareholder to present our progress against our Business Plan and ensure that comments are captured and integrated in further iterations.
  • Work closely with GBN's communication team to disseminate GBN's plan with internal and external audiences, and set the narrative used in company communications.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A process orientated mind-set with a drive for creating clarity and structure.
  • Track record of experience in strategic planning and business plan development, preferably within the nuclear / energy / infrastructure industry.
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills, with the ability to present and summarise complex strategic concepts and activities in clear, well-structured and engaging papers.
  • Proficient in using data visualisation tools to communicate insights for strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders (c-suite) to gather information and formulate a comprehensive plan.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-professional team and communicate across the team and business.
  • High level of business acumen.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on execution and a commitment to excellence.
  • Exceptional organisational skills including the ability to prioritise effectively on behalf of others and deliver with accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management/Strategy, Engineering, or a related field is essential.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
