Summary: The role of Business Analyst focuses on data centre infrastructure within a financial startup, requiring expertise in gathering requirements and analyzing operational processes. The position involves supporting the planning and execution of infrastructure initiatives, including compute, storage, and networking. The analyst will engage with various stakeholders to translate business needs into technical specifications and facilitate project delivery. This is a 6-month contract role, classified as outside IR35, with a competitive hourly rate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with stakeholders to identify business needs related to data centre infrastructure.
  • Translate high-level requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications.
  • Analyse current-state infrastructure, processes, and workflows to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the development of infrastructure roadmaps covering compute, storage, networking, and cloud/hybrid architecture.
  • Assist in capacity planning for power, cooling, rack space, compute, and storage.
  • Work closely with project managers and engineering teams to define scope, timelines, deliverables, and dependencies.
  • Maintain documentation such as business cases, requirements documents, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyse operational data and provide dashboards and reports supporting decision-making.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery of infrastructure services.
  • Communicate complex infrastructure concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Skills:

  • Understanding of data centre infrastructure components: servers, storage systems, networking, virtualisation, and cloud platforms.
  • Experience analysing IT infrastructure metrics and familiarity with ITIL processes.

My client, a Financial Start up, are looking for a Business Analyst with Infrastructure and Data Centre experience. £500 Outside of IR35 6 Month Contract This role is responsible for gathering requirements, analysing operational processes, and supporting the planning, optimisation, and execution of data centre infrastructure initiatives—including compute, storage, networking, cloud integration, facilities, and capacity management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Analysis
  • Engage with stakeholders across IT, facilities, operations, security, and business units to identify business needs related to data centre infrastructure.
  • Translate high-level requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications.
  • Analyse current-state infrastructure, processes, and workflows to identify gaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and process mapping sessions.
  • Data Centre Infrastructure Planning
  • Support the development of infrastructure roadmaps covering compute, storage, networking, virtualisation, cloud/hybrid architecture, and physical facilities.
  • Assist in capacity planning for power, cooling, rack space, compute, and storage.
  • Evaluate impacts of infrastructure changes (hardware refreshes, migrations, upgrades).
  • Project Delivery Support
  • Work closely with project managers and engineering teams to define scope, timelines, deliverables, and dependencies.
  • Maintain documentation such as business cases, requirements documents, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyse operational data (utilisation, performance, availability, incident trends, cost metrics).
  • Provide dashboards and reports supporting decision-making on capacity, lifecycle management, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop KPIs and metrics for infrastructure performance and service levels.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery of infrastructure services.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of data centre infrastructure components: Servers, storage systems, networking (LAN/WAN), virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud).
  • Power, cooling, racks, cabling, monitoring systems (DCIM).
  • Experience analysing IT infrastructure metrics (capacity, utilisation, performance).
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, service management, and CMDB structures.
  • Ability to interpret architectural diagrams and technical documentation.

Business & Analytical Skills

  • Strong requirements gathering and business process analysis.
  • Experience producing business cases, impact assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking.
