Business Analyst (Financial Crime/KYC/AML) - Outside IR35 - Up to £500 per day

Posted Today by Hunter Bond

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed end-to-end process maps, documenting current-state and future-state processes.
  • Analyse existing processes, identify gaps, inefficiencies, risks and control weaknesses, and recommend improvements.
  • Work closely with Financial Crime, Compliance, Operations and other stakeholders to understand and document business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, process documentation and operating models.
  • Translate regulatory and policy requirements into clear, workable operational processes.
  • Document roles, responsibilities, controls, decision points, hand-offs, exceptions and escalation routes.
  • Support the implementation of revised processes and controls, ensuring documentation accurately reflects the target operating model.
  • Facilitate workshops with business and subject-matter experts to elicit requirements and validate process designs.
  • Produce high-quality BA artefacts including process maps, requirements, procedures, control documentation and gap analyses.
  • Ensure processes and supporting documentation are consistent with relevant regulatory and internal policy requirements.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within a complex, regulated environment.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience of creating end-to-end process maps from discovery through to implementation.
  • Excellent experience of writing and maintaining policies, procedures and operational documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Ability to take complex or ambiguous requirements and turn them into clear, structured processes and documentation.
  • Experience analysing current-state vs. future-state processes and identifying improvements, risks and control gaps.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within Financial Crime/AML/KYC/CDD.
  • Understanding of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), KYC and beneficial ownership.
  • Exposure to the UK regulatory framework, particularly the Money Laundering Regulations, FCA Financial Crime Guide and/or JMLSG guidance.
  • Experience documenting processes relating to customer onboarding, periodic reviews, KYC remediation or ongoing monitoring.
  • Experience working with Compliance, Financial Crime, Risk or Operations teams.
  • Financial services, banking, payments, fintech or other regulated-sector experience.

What we're looking for

  • This role would suit a pragmatic, delivery-focused Business Analyst who is comfortable getting into the detail of how processes actually work, rather than someone whose experience is primarily requirements gathering.
  • The strongest candidates will be able to demonstrate examples of where they have taken an existing process, mapped it end-to-end, identified gaps or risks, redesigned it and then produced the policy/procedure documentation needed to operationalise the new approach.
  • Financial Crime experience is preferred, but candidates with strong regulated-sector BA experience and excellent process/documentation skills will also be considered. The FCA's recent CDD review specifically highlights policies and procedures, CDD/EDD processes, and compliance controls as key areas of focus.
