Summary: The Building Services Electrical Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising the electrical maintenance team at the University, ensuring the delivery of safe and efficient electrical services. This role involves overseeing low voltage systems, lighting, and emergency power while ensuring compliance with regulations and university standards. The supervisor will also support minor works and refurbishment projects, promoting a strong health and safety culture. The position requires strong leadership and technical skills in electrical engineering and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of electrical maintenance staff and external contractors.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes.
- Monitor and maintain electrical systems to ensure safety, compliance, and energy efficiency.
- Support the delivery of minor works and refurbishment projects, providing technical input and on-site supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, and statutory compliance (e.g., EICRs, PAT testing).
- Liaise with academic and administrative departments to coordinate works with minimal disruption.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with University policies and legal requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of energy-saving and sustainability initiatives related to electrical systems.
Key Skills:
- Recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2391, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in supervising electrical maintenance teams in a large, complex environment.
- Strong knowledge of LV systems, lighting, emergency systems, and electrical compliance.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety legislation and electrical regulations (e.g., BS 7671).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Experience in a higher education or public sector environment (desirable).
- NICEIC Qualified Supervisor status (desirable).
- Familiarity with CAFM systems (desirable).
