Summary: The Interim Building Safety Manager role involves supporting a local authority's building safety programme, specifically for high and medium rise private residential buildings. The position requires an experienced professional to assess risks, review safety data, and engage with stakeholders to address unsafe cladding and fire safety issues. The role is hands-on and demands a strong understanding of building safety legislation and practices. The working pattern includes three days on-site and two days office-based.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertaking desktop reviews of high and medium rise residential buildings
- Developing risk-based inspection programmes
- Reviewing EWS data, FRAEW reports, and related fire safety documentation
- Identifying unsafe cladding and wider building safety risks
- Engaging with building owners to gather information on materials, interim measures, and remediation plans
- Reviewing remediation funding data and identifying missing buildings
- Working closely with enforcement teams and external stakeholders including fire and rescue services
Key Skills:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline
- Around 5 years' experience in building safety, fire safety, or building surveying
- Experience carrying out HHSRS surveys
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including Building Safety Act 2022, Housing Act 2004, Fire Safety Act 2021, and related regulations
- Familiar with high-rise residential buildings and external wall systems
- Comfortable balancing inspections, technical review work, and reporting
