Summary: The Building Safety Liaison Officer role at Islington Council involves supporting the delivery of building and resident safety objectives through effective resident consultation and engagement, particularly in Higher-Risk Buildings. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of the Council’s building and resident safety objectives through resident consultation and engagement.
- Coordinate the development, completion, and review of Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs) for vulnerable residents.
- Conduct resident consultation and engagement activities on building safety matters.
- Act as a primary point of contact for residents and stakeholders on building safety issues.
- Coordinate and maintain building and resident safety data for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs).
- Support the preparation and delivery of resident engagement strategies for HRBs.
- Provide timely responses to resident queries and complaints, capturing learning for service improvement.
- Carry out property inspections related to building safety, including fire safety and hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
- Assist with the development and review of RPEEPs and coordinate Person Centred Fire Risk Assessments (PCFRA) as needed.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in resident consultation and engagement, preferably in social housing or building safety.
- Knowledge of current building and resident safety issues, including the Building Safety Act 2022 and Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.
- Ability to coordinate and maintain safety data and documentation.
- Strong communication skills for effective resident engagement.
- Experience in conducting property inspections related to building safety.

I am currently representing Islington Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 3-6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience
We are looking for a Building Safety Liaison Officer this role will be: Hybrid 3 days office 2 days remote. N1 1XR
The right candidate will:
- To support the delivery of the Council’s building and resident safety objectives by leading effective resident consultation and engagement across Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs) and other housing stock.
- You will take responsibility for coordinating the development, completion, and review of Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs) for vulnerable residents, working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and recognised industry standards
- Conduct effective resident consultation and engagement activities on building safety matters, ensuring inclusive participation and clear communication across estates/buildings.
- Act as a primary point of contact for residents and stakeholders on building safety issues, providing accurate advice, guidance, and support.
- Coordinate and maintain building and resident safety data to support Building Safety Case information and statutory reporting for Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs).
- Support the preparation and delivery of resident engagement strategies for HRBs, contributing to building assessment certification submissions as required.
- Provide timely responses to resident queries, requests for information and complaints; capture learning to drive service improvement.
- Carry out property inspections related to building safety, including fire safety, damp/mould, and hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up actions
- Assist with the development, completion and periodic review of Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs) for vulnerable residents, coordinating Person Centred Fire Risk Assessments (PCFRA) where requested and ensuring records are accurate, secure and up to date.
We require the following:
- Proven experience in resident consultation and engagement, ideally within a social housing or building safety context, with demonstrable outcomes.
- Knowledge of current building and resident safety issues, including the Building Safety Act 2022 resident engagement duties for Higher-Risk Buildings, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and other relevant legislative frameworks, guidance, and recognised industry best practice.
