Summary: The Building Control Surveyor role involves supporting the Building Control Service in North Yorkshire by conducting technical assessments, inspections, and enforcement to ensure compliance with Building Regulations. The position requires experience within a local authority and entails managing caseloads for various developments while providing guidance to stakeholders. This is a full-time, temporary position aimed at maintaining health, safety, and sustainability standards in construction. The ideal candidate should be Level 1 Registered with the Building Safety Regulator and possess relevant qualifications in Building Control or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing Building Regulation applications and enforcing compliance within statutory timeframes.
  • Conducting site inspections to ensure construction meets building codes and regulations.
  • Investigating and managing reports of dangerous structures, demolitions, and unauthorized works.
  • Initiating and assisting with enforcement actions under the Building Act 1984.
  • Providing professional guidance and technical support to stakeholders, including contractors and the public.
  • Supporting out-of-hours emergency responses related to dangerous structures.

Key Skills:

  • Level 1 Registered with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • HND/Degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering.
  • Registered or working towards Class 1: Trainee Building Inspector under the HSE Building Inspector Competency Framework (BICoF).
  • Student or Associate Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB).
  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, building regulations, and enforcement procedures.
  • Experience in Building Control for both domestic and non-domestic projects.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
