Summary: In the role of Interim Building Control Manager for a West Midlands Local Authority, you will oversee the Building Control function, managing a team of surveyors and administrative staff. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Building Control function for the Authorities.

- Support with HSE inspections.
- Lead the management of the South Worcestershire Building Control Board meeting.

Key Skills:
- Fully qualified with chartered membership to RICS, CABE, or equivalent.
- Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at class 2 or above.
- Sound knowledge of major legislative issues facing Local Government in Building Control.
- Experience in promoting policy/guidance and ensuring compliance with legislation.
- Experience representing the Council in various meetings, including court hearings.
- Inspirational leadership skills with experience in motivating and developing others.
- Computer literate with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Well-organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

In this newly created role, you will lead and manage the Building Control function for the Authorities. This will involve managing a team of building control surveyors and administrative staff, providing technical advice and support to ensure compliance with relevant Building Control legislation and council policies. You will also monitor performance of the service with a view to increasing its market share. You will support with HSE inspections, lead the management of the South Worcestershire Building Control Board meeting, and represent the Council at court hearings in relation to Building Control matters. Great communication skills and an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders is therefore essential along with a commitment to delivering an outstanding service to all our customers.
About you
The successful candidate will:
Be fully qualified with chartered membership to RICS, CABE, or equivalent
Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at class 2 or above
Sound knowledge of major legislative issues facing Local Government, particularly in the area of Building Control
Experience of promoting policy/guidance and ensuring compliance with relative legislation
Experience of representing the Council at the wide range of internal and external meetings including court hearings, across a wide range of contacts and at all levels
Be an inspirational leader, with experience of motivating and developing others
Be computer literate and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Well organised and ability to handle a variety of tasks at any time
Ability to positively respond to change and seek new and improved ways of working.
The role requires travel across our districts with an ability to undertake site visits which may involve activities such as climbing ladders/operating in confined spaces. Candidates must therefore hold a full driving licence, have access to a vehicle for work purposes, and be comfortable working at height / in confined spaces.
