Summary: The role of Budget Business Manager at emagine involves overseeing financial performance and expense management within the Technology department, focusing on enhancing financial transparency and optimizing costs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong financial background and experience in cost optimization within a technology function. This position requires effective analysis and management of large data sets to improve budgetary decision-making processes. The role is office-based, requiring a commitment of five days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the department's expense budget and financial performance, enhancing variance analysis and cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Provide accurate mapping of forecasted costs against services to create transparency over departmental expenditure.
  • Manage and maintain the Service Catalogue, ensuring it accurately reflects business consumption of technology services.
  • Improve budget control processes, approval workflows, and escalate financial risks while identifying potential cost-saving measures.
  • Streamline complex financial data and reporting, ensuring clarity on true cost savings and expected expenditures.
  • Foster financial literacy within the department, improving accuracy in financial forecasts in collaboration with the leadership team and Technology Financial Analysis & Reporting department.
  • Work closely with the Financial Technology Reporting team to develop FINOPS capabilities and support financial tool development.
  • Attend monthly Headcount and Financial Management Review meetings with L2 Management, analysing actual spending trends and ensuring appropriate allocation of funding.
  • Monitor expenditures, ensuring the department remains within budget while tracking financial results throughout the year.
  • Review and enhance budget control processes, workflows, and governance procedures to improve financial management.
  • Prepare and develop annual expense budget proposals and funding requests, collaborating with leadership to consolidate budgets and forecast future needs.

Key Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in Budget Cost Optimisation, with a proven track record of managing and optimising financial performance.
  • Strong understanding of business financial service models.
  • BSc/MSc in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Conceptual understanding of technology foundations, including infrastructure (databases, operating systems, networks), cybersecurity, and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • 3+ years of experience in cost optimisation within a Technology department.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, forecasting methods, and financial modelling.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and quantitative skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to manipulate and interpret large data sets from multiple sources, ensuring data quality and presenting technical financial information clearly.
  • Experience creating and delivering impactful PowerPoint presentations.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to express complex financial topics in a clear and concise manner for senior audiences.
  • Experience in the Financial Services sector (desirable).
  • Background in economics, accounting, or statistics (desirable).
