Summary: The Brakes Refinement Engineer role focuses on the engineering and delivery of refined braking systems across all vehicle lines, ensuring customer satisfaction through the management of various brake attributes. The position involves collaboration with engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support testing and development activities. The engineer will also be responsible for delivering technical recommendations and conducting benchmarking against competitors. This role aims to enhance the overall customer experience through effective design and measurement of brake refinement attributes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support delivery of all Attribute Requirement targets by Gateway and ensure all technical issues are identified and resolved.
- Support test and development activities as required or specified in the Design Verification Plan (DVP), including physical/virtual testing, measurement, and visual assessments.
- Work with lead engineer to drive implementation and resolution of all engineering solutions.
- Deliver technical recommendations and reports.
- Support competitor and comparator Attribute benchmarking and futuring.
- Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job.
Key Skills:
- Knowledge of automotive brake system design.
- Previous experience of problem-solving tools (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, 8 Disciplines of problem solving, Design of Experiments, and FMEA in Manufacturing).
- Experience in solving complex technical ideas and challenges.
- Relevant degree.
- Full UK Cat B Driving Licence.
- Ability to identify specifications influencing brake attributes.
- Experience in NVH analysis.
- Knowledge of industry-standard NVH measurement systems (LMS Test.lab, HEAD Artemis, Prosig, etc.).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Knowledge of whole vehicle engineering and cross-functional experience.
- Some experience with explicit and/or implicit CAE software and associated pre and post-processing packages.

The Opportunity
The brakes refinement team is responsible for the engineering and delivery of a refined braking system from the pedal to the foundation brake on all vehicle lines to customer expectations. Brakes refinement attributes include include; squeal, judder, creep groan and wheel honk and brake actuation NVH and EPB sound quality. There is a strong focus on ensuring that our standards satisfy our customers in conjunction with developing efficient methods for delivery of programmes including the use of virtual tools and translation of customer requirements into objective measurements. This role will aim to enhance the customer experience through the design, development, measurement and balance of the brake refinement customer attributes for vehicles
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

- Experience in the field of NVH analysis
- Knowledge of industry standard NVH measurement systems (LMS Test.lab, HEAD Artemis, Prosig, etc.)

- Knowledge of whole vehicle engineering knowledge and cross functional experience
- Some experience of explicit and/or implicit CAE software and associated pre and post processing packages
