Summary: The BMS Engineer - Design role in London involves developing comprehensive designs for building control systems across various building types. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive designs and scope packages for building control systems.
- Interpret customer specifications for panel design, hardware configuration, and software configuration.
- Work flexibly as part of a team and proactively engage with modern technologies.
- Conduct site surveys and work around live plant and equipment.
- Coordinate BMS disciplines with multiple external suppliers and subcontractors.
- Lead a small team of engineers and conduct pre-sales technical surveys.
Key Skills:
- Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Significant industry experience in control and automation of building systems.
- Knowledge of BMS system design and development.
- Experience with leading manufacturers' equipment/systems (e.g., Siemens, Honeywell, Trend).

The BMS design engineer should fully understand the engineering requirements of building control systems for a range of building types, varying in complexity. Candidates will need a thorough understanding of both mechanical and electrical building systems and be able to work autonomously. The role will require experience of interpreting customer specifications to develop comprehensive designs and scope packages for individual disciplines including panel design, hardware configuration, field equipment, software configuration, graphic packages as well as installation and commissioning scope. Candidates must also be prepared to work flexibly as part of the team and be pro-active with modern technologies and best practice.
Applicants should have engineering skills as detailed below:
- Electrical and Mechanical systems and plant knowledge,
- BMS system design - Development of the full design from initial scope to handover documentation,
- Author BMS control system strategy documents,
- BMS hardware and software architecture development and best practice,
- Preferably have knowledge of leading manufactures equipment/systems i.e. Siemens, Honeywell, Trend etc.
Competence
- Minimum HNC qualification in relevant discipline,
- Must be prepared to undergo security screening for specific projects,
- Significant industry experience in control and automation of building systems
- Comfortable in both an office and construction site environment,
- Competent in site surveys, working around live plant and equipment,
- A detailed understanding of specialist building systems including BMS, Electrical, Mechanical, fire safety and the BMS aspects of building networks.
- Experienced in BMS/control system design, software configuration, graphic generation, control panel design,
- Knowledge of PLC's, stand-alone controllers, and energy/power control systems,
- Experience in coordinating BMS disciplines with multiple external suppliers and subcontract companies,
- Excellent IT skills,
- Demonstrable complex problem-solving skills,
- An initiative-taker and strong team-player, flexible and able to work effectively without close supervision,
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and able to develop excellent customer/supplier working relationships,
- Ability to lead a small team of engineers would be advantageous,
- Ability to conduct pre-sales technical surveys.
