Summary: The Field-Based Biomedical Application Specialist role involves providing technical support and training for chemistry and immunoassay analysers within NHS pathology laboratories in the Newcastle region. The position requires a strong background in biomedical science and experience in troubleshooting and installations. The specialist will work independently across multiple hospital sites, ensuring high standards of service and support. This is a 12-month contract role classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering training to laboratory scientists and end users
  • Providing onsite troubleshooting and technical support across multiple hospital sites
  • Coordinating and resolving customer issues efficiently
  • Supporting system installations, upgrades, and modifications
  • Participating in review meetings with laboratory teams
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with end users

Key Skills:

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or a related scientific field
  • Experience working within an NHS pathology laboratory (minimum 2-3 years)
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic analysers (chemistry, immunoassay, haematology, etc.)
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to deliver user training confidently and clearly
  • Ability to work independently across several sites
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
  • Full UK driving licence

Role: Field-Based Biomedical Application Specialist

Location: Newcastle region (QE Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland)

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm

Contract: 12-month contract, Inside IR35

PAYE Rate: £200-£250 per day (excluding holiday pay)

Umbrella Rate: £265.27-£331.59 per day (including holiday pay)

Due to the location, you must be able to drive & have access to a vehicle.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Biomedical Scientist or Applications Support Scientist to join a leading global diagnostics organisation as part of their North Technical Services team.

This role provides essential support across chemistry and immunoassay analysers, as well as pre- and post-analytical laboratory solutions. You will play a key part in installation projects, troubleshooting activities, workflow optimisation and ensuring pathology laboratories receive the highest standard of technical support.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or a related scientific field
  • Experience working within an NHS pathology laboratory (minimum 2-3 years)
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic analysers (chemistry, immunoassay, haematology, etc.)
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to deliver user training confidently and clearly
  • Ability to work independently across several sites
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Previous field-based or applications specialist experience
  • Experience supporting analyser installations or workflow improvements
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality systems (QC, IQC, UKAS, ISO15189)
