Summary: The Biodiversity Net Gain Officer role at Manchester Council focuses on establishing and supporting the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) initiatives. Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the planning lead on the procurement of Ashenhurst as the MCC off-site BNG site.
  • Be the planning lead on the development of a pipeline of potential additional off-site BNG sites.
  • Act as liaison with GMCA on strategic BNG issues, including liaison with GMEU.
  • Review the DM approach to BNG delivery through development.
  • Support the integration of BNG as part of the new Arcus system.
  • Lead on the BNG policy area as part of the MCC Local Plan, including reviewing the draft policy and evidence base.
  • Create a monitoring approach to all BNG secured through the planning service.

Detailed Description From Employer:

This post will establish the Manchester Council approach to BNG delivery providing support to BNG delivery, identifying best practice and supporting policy delivery as well as the procurement of Manchester located BNG sites for off-site delivery. They require someone with a good planning background within environmental management, They need to create the robust policy and liaise wwith GMCA They will report into the Head of Strategic policy who is responsible for the local plan. The Job title: Biodiversity Net Gain Officer We are looking for a contractor with detailed knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain who will be working to set the authority up as a leader in BNG. Ideally the candidate will have a working knowledge of the planning system and understands the delivery of BNG through development. The post can be full time or part rime but there is a need for the officer to start delivering from the start - the procurement of Ashenhurst is temporarily on hold until the post holder starts and the Reg19 consultation is timetabled for the summer. The candidate will have to be office based for the majority of the working week so they can liaise with the team.
