Summary: The role of Band 6 Rehabilitation Engineer involves providing temporary support to the Birmingham Wheelchair Service, focusing on assessing and addressing the postural and mobility needs of wheelchair users. The position requires a qualified healthcare science practitioner to develop innovative solutions in compliance with relevant legislation and quality management systems. This role is part of a larger team and includes participation in continuous professional development and clinical supervision. Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessment of postural and mobility needs for service users of Birmingham Wheelchair Service.
  • Create innovative and safe solutions to meet the assessed clinical needs of wheelchair users.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and ISO13485:2016 Quality Management System.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and clinical supervision programs.

Key Skills:

  • Degree in Science related subject or equivalent.
  • Significant experience working with wheelchairs and/or seating.
  • Ability to work within an ISO13485 Quality System.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze simple biomechanical and engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of wheelchairs and seating.
  • Current registration with RCT or HCPC.
  • Highly self-motivated and flexible.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Empathy towards people with disabilities.
